'COD: Vanguard' Is Getting An 'Attack On Titan' Crossover, Because Screw Realism I Guess

Call of Duty: Vanguard is out now, and in players’ hands, and those players are, presumably, having an alright time with it? Right? It’s an okay shootybang? Again? IDK, it’s not a game series I follow. One CoD is the same as all the other CoDs to me - though I guess there are clear winners and losers. And I don’t follow anime either, so this newly leaked crossover is absolutely wasted on me. But you? Y’know, maybe, just maybe, it’s your thing.

As reported on VGC and Gameort, datamining has revealed that Vanguard may soon officially reveal an Attack on Titan crossover - Attack on Titan being a popular anime series, based on a popular manga series created by Hajime Isayama, where gigantic humanoid monsters, titans, threaten to wipe out the last remaining humans, who are forced to live in special cities protected by high walls.

Naturally, Zombies mode is a part of Vanguard - check out the trailer for those undead nasties, below…

A new operator (playable character) named aot_titan has been found, so too information pointing towards new weapons based on Attack on Titan. This comes via dataminers Nanikos and Zesty, who each discovered clues to the crossover. After posting their discoveries - see the embedded tweet below - Nanikos followed up by posting a picture of the new Attack on Titan-themed swords, writing: “Seems the Attack on Titan crossover is confirmed.”

Zesty, meanwhile, followed their AoT reveals with further data insights, including the suggestion that a special Christmas-themed operator, Krampus, will be added to Vanguard soon - and with a unique execution move too, presumably reserved for anyone who’s on the naughty list.

Call of Duty has never really been about realism, has it. The series sent Jon Snow to space, for goodness sake. But these leaks just go to show how Vanguard is happily edging away from that older ‘boots on the ground’ grit, and into fantasy shenanigans. If I played, I’d be more into this stuff than the ol’ boring military shooter familiarity. Hulking great flesh terrors who eat humans for breakfast, or shouty lil squirts in fatigues with pew-pew pea-shooters? I know whose side I’d be on. And if you're keen for this, it sounds like it'll be upon us in December.
