'Call Of Duty: Warzone' Godzilla Vs King Kong Event Divides Fans

Call of Duty: Warzone has redefined what it means to be a Call of Duty game, and that’s not necessarily a good thing. Embracing the crossover, Warzone has recently played host to 80s cinematic icons like John Rambo and John McClane and horror villains like Leatherface and Billy The Puppet. It’s certainly distanced itself from the serious Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Earlier this month, the trailer for Call of Duty: Warzone’s third season teased the appearance of Godzilla, and now we’ve been treated (or exposed) to a full reveal of the Godzilla vs Kong crossover event, and fans are unsurprisingly divided.

Take a look at the trailer below and make your own opinions about the direction the game is taking.

Commencing 11 May, Operation Monarch will see players go up against “something far more powerful and fearsome than anything we could ever hope to comprehend,” well according to the voiceover guy anyway. We see the fearsome duo go head to head, shortly after Kong rips a plane from the sky because you know, Kong’s gonna Kong.

If you didn’t know that the trailer was in any way related to Call of Duty: Warzone, no one would blame you for thinking that this is just a scene from 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong. As with any mildly notable occurrence in today’s day and age, fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts.

User Vol4life123 wrote, “Remember when Warzone had a season that focused on destroying the stadium? Look how far COD’s fallen.” CaptainGalxy remarked, “To see Godzilla make a return in video games in Call of Duty: Warzone was not on my bingo card,” whilst user Gaz_Is_Back perhaps best summed up the state of Call of Duty with a choice meme that read, “Me, Snoop Dogg, and Levi are gonna shoot this big f***kin lizard.” He’s not wrong.

No one quite knows where players will actually come into this crossover. Anyone who’s ever seen a monster film knows that goons with guns are the first to get obliterated, but I guess you don’t have long to find out, troops.
