Call Of Duty And 'Warzone' Servers Attacked, Causing Severe Slowdowns

A DDoS attack was launched against Activision Blizzard's servers this morning, causing problems for players.

It’s an important week in the world of Call of Duty. This weekend is the first beta weekend for the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, plus tomorrow is the day of the Call of Duty Next showcase, so we should learn lots of new and exciting things about the future of the franchise. Amidst all of this though, several Activision Blizzard servers have been attacked and players are reporting severe slowdowns.

Speaking of Modern Warfare II, check out this incredible gameplay snippet.

As reported by PCGamesN, Activision Blizzard’s servers are currently experiencing a DDoS attack. This means that users are experiencing log-in failures and lengthy queues on battle.net. In fact, DDoS stands for ‘distributed denial-of-service’ attack. The attack is particularly affecting World of Warcraft, various Call of Duty titles, Call of Duty Warzone, Hearthstone, Overwatch, and Diablo.

The problems began at around 8AM BST today. Blizzard tweeted, “We're currently investigating an issue affecting our authentication servers, which may result in failed or slow login attempts.” They later followed up with, “We continue to actively monitor an ongoing DDoS attack which is affecting latency/connections to our games.”

Thankfully, the problem now seems to be rectified. As noted by PCGamesN, DDoS attacks are difficult to deal with as they utilise an array of incoming sources, making the primary source difficult to pin down. Users are encouraged to contact Blizzard if they’re still experiencing issues.
