Back in 2018, when Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 released, it launched as the first CoD game completely missing a single-player campaign mode. That apparently wasn’t originally the plan for the game, though - different reports over the years have suggested it did exist, at one point, but got cancelled.
Now though, as Eurogamer reports, Reddit user Purpletoaster20 has taken to r/GamingLeaksAndRumours with what they claim to be the result of months of research with insiders, discussing the entirety of the cancelled campaign. There’s a lot to unpack, so let’s summarise the key parts.

The campaign was supposedly called “Career”, and was set to be a “a 2v2 ‘race to the finish’ mode”, with plans to turn it into a co-op live service mode (which you could also play on your own, with AI). Apparently, the story, which would have taken place in 2070, post-Black Ops 3, would have been set in a global pandemic, plagued with climate disasters, with many of the world’s resources diminished. The story direction would have apparently been influenced by wins and losses in the Career mode.

While there were apparently only six story locations, they were set to be twice as large as Black Ops 3’s campaign missions, and each mission (which were all 15-20 minutes long) would form a sector on the map. Missions also supposedly featured side-objectives, alongside the main goal.
As for how the missions worked, one of the examples listed in the Reddit post apparently saw one team take on the role of the Free People’s Army, with the goal of escorting a convoy through a neutral zone while defending it from the World United Nations. The other team, playing as the World United Nations, were, as you’d expect, supposedly tasked with destroying the convoy.
Assuming this is true, it certainly sounds ambitious - Purpletoaster20 will apparently be releasing a video on their YouTube channel next week to go even more in depth with the details.
