It’s hard to argue that The Witcher 3 isn’t an incredible, incredible game. The RPG is recognised as one of the best games of all time by players everywhere. CD Projekt Red did an incredible job telling the tale of Geralt of Rivia as he searches for Ciri across The Continent and after two additionally incredible DLC, fans want more - so when is The Witcher 4 coming out? Well, a recent interview reveals that CD Projekt Red are ramping up to start work soon.
In an interview with the Polish economic paper Rzeczpospolita, Adam Kicinski was questioned about the future of the two main CD Projekt franchises. He said that the next steps are happening in 2022, as CD Projekt’s strategic goal is to work on both in parallel starting next year. Though there might already be working going on behind the scenes to work out how the developer is going to approach its next big project, we know that The Witcher’s next release will now officially be in production in 2022.
The next Witcher project we can look forward to is the release of season two of the Netflix show...
We’ve already heard about this dual development system. It was explained earlier in 2021 that the developer was going to take a new approach with how it was going to produce work - using a system where two projects run simultaneously and share certain assets. For example, if both projects need an NPC AI system, make sure these resources are shared and developed between the two games so they use the same basis.
During that interview the joint CEO of CD Projekt was also asked if the company was looking to accept investors and perhaps be acquired by another company. The answer was a no and there even seem to be precautions in place to prevent a hostile take over too. Cyberpunk 2077’s messy launch seems to be a thing in the developer’s rear view mirror now.
