Chadwick Boseman's Brother Says He Would've Wanted Black Panther To Be Recast

It was confirmed earlier this year by Marvel that Chadwick Boseman’s portrayal of T’Challa in Black Panther would never be replaced by another actor. Despite this, there is still a demand from some fans to see someone else take on the role, especially with the sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, on its way. Now, Boseman’s brother, Derrick Boseman, has also reportedly said that he agrees T’Challa should be recast.

Speaking to TMZ, Derrick Boseman has reportedly said that he thinks T’Challa should live on in the franchise, even if that means seeing another actor take the role, and he apparently also thinks that his late brother would agree, despite never explicitly sharing his wishes for the future of the character before he passed away.

Check out our chat with Christopher Judge, where he speaks about the actor's presence and contribution to T'Challa's character, below.

He reportedly said that he doesn’t think there are enough positive influences for young Black children, which Marvel could help counteract by bringing back T’Challa. It’s worth noting that there are no full quotes to back up these statements, or any video footage, however, so just keep that in mind.

Black Panther was the first Marvel Studios film to have a Black director, as well as a predominantly Black cast, which meant a lot to the millions of fans who got to see themselves represented on screen. Boseman’s portrayal of T’Challa in particular was incredibly impactful, and so it’s unsurprising that many fans would want to see someone else take the role, to bring T’Challa back to our screens. However, the president of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, said that not recasting would “honour the legacy” of Boseman.

Currently, Wakanda Forever is set to release next year, having been pushed back to 11 November after Marvel announced a bunch of delays back in October. Characters including Nakia, Okoye, Shuri, M’Baku and Everett Ross are all set to return, along with the introduction of Riri Williams, AKA Ironheart, to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There’s no doubt that it’s going to be amazing.
