'Call Of Duty: Warzone 2' Is Reportedly In Development And Will Release In 2023

Okay, so there’s a lot of Call of Duty news that’s been surfacing in the past day. First of all, we’ve had further confirmation that we don’t need to worry about the series becoming Xbox exclusive anytime soon, but also, out of nowhere, it seems like Warzone 2 is in development now?

This began with the publication of a Bloomberg report, which claimed that at least the next three games in the series are set to be released on PlayStation. This news isn’t really too surprising, given that Xbox boss Phil Spencer already tweeted about his “desire to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation” earlier last week. However, some of the extra details were quite interesting, to say the least.

Before we go on, why not check out a few of our favourite COD: Warzone moments below?

“Activision is committed to releasing at least the next three Call of Duty games on PlayStation even after the Xbox acquisition, according to people familiar with the deal. That's COD2022COD2023, and Warzone 2 (in 2023). After that, it's hazier,” Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier wrote on Twitter.

Wait, what? Warzone 2? Well, that prompted Tom Henderson, a prominent industry insider and leaker, to weigh in on the action too, giving a little more information regarding what we might be able to expect from these upcoming three titles.

“Bloomberg has reported that Activision will [publish] the next three Call of Duty titles on PlayStation. Modern Warfare 2 this year, Treyarch's title in 2023, and ‘Warzone 2’ in 2023,” he wrote. “Warzone 2 is literally that. Warzone 2. Current gen and PC only. No past weapon integrations etc. A completely new game for the better hardware.”

So, apparently, it’s not going to have anything to do with the current battle royale game at all, which is odd given it’s literally called Warzone 2. Perhaps it’s just called that because it’s going to be a battle royale too? Henderson’s phrasing of it being “a completely new game” certainly gives us a few more questions than answers. With it apparently not releasing until 2023, chances are we’ve probably got a bit of a wait on our hands to find out anything official, so we’ll just have to stay tuned.
