Go on, you know how it goes. "Six seasons, and a movie," said Abed, and now, the Community movie has been officially greenlit thanks to Peacock.

Since the show ended in 2015, the cast, crew and fans have been clamouring for a movie. Indeed, the final episode promised that it would one day become a reality, ending on the title card, "... And a movie." Given how tumultuous the entertainment industry is, and the serious upheaval that the pandemic has had on productions at all scales, it seemed like the possibility slipped further and further out of reach.

"It just feels like psychological torture, from a fan's perspective to keep looking into the backseat of a station wagon and saying, 'Who wants McDonald's?' and to just keep driving down the freeway. I don't want to be guilty of causing that sensation. It just takes so long sometimes," said creator Dan Harmon in an interview with Newsweek earlier in the summer. Finally, that dream has come to a close.

As announced on Twitter, the movie will be made with the assistance of NBCUniversal, will be released on its streaming service Peacock, and will welcome original cast members Joel McHale, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash and Ken Jeong back to Glendale Community College - bar Chevy Chase. Dan Harmon is acting as an executive producer, as well as Joel McHale, Russ Krasnoff, and Gary Foster, and the story will be written by Dan Harmon and Andrew Guest.

Community was light years ahead of its time when it premiered on NBC in 2009 and we are thrilled to once again visit the brilliant minds of Dan Harmon, Andrew Guest and this impeccable cast,” said Jason Clodfelter, co-president of Sony Pictures Television Studios, in a statement. “We are grateful to Peacock, our partners at UTV and to all the zealous fans who have cherished this iconic show.”

Obviously, details about a release date are undisclosed at this time, but we'll keep you in the loop.
