Crew Member Shot And Killed On Set Of ‘Law & Order: Organized Crime’

A crew member on Law & Order: Organized Crime was shot and killed in Brooklyn, New York, on the set of the NBC drama in the early morning of Tuesday 19 July.

As reported by Deadline, the victim was 31-year-old parking enforcement worker Johnny Pizarro from Queens, New York. According to the police report, Pizarro was sitting inside a car on the set of the TV series in the Greenpoint neighbourhood of Brooklyn when he was shot at around 5.15AM Eastern Time.

According to Variety, an unknown person approached Pizarro’s car, opened the door and proceeded to open fire. Pizarro was employed by a private company contracted by Universal Television production.

After the attack, Pizarro was rushed to nearby Woodhull Hospital Center where he was pronounced dead at 6AM. At the time of writing, no arrests have been made and no suspects have been identified by police. The killer was described by witnesses as wearing a black hoodie and black trousers.

A spokeswoman for NBC and Universal Television said, “We were terribly saddened and shocked to hear that one of our crew members was the victim of a crime early this morning and has died as a result. We are working with local law enforcement as they continue to investigate. Our hearts go out to his family and friends and we ask that you respect their privacy during this time.”

Law & Order: Organized Crime is currently in the midst of filming its third season which is due to premiere in September. The Law & Order spin-off stars Christopher Meloni, who reprises his role as Elliot, alongside new stars including Dylan McDermott, Nona Parker Johnson and Jennifer Beals. The series focuses on the NYPD’s organised crime unit.

Following the shooting, production temporarily shut down.
