It looks like CS:GO is finally getting a sequel

It looks like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, otherwise known as CS:GO is finally getting a sequel. Could it finally be happening?

Powered by Valve’s Source Engine, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was originally released for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 back in 2012. However, other than releasing updates and DLC, due to its ever-popular competitive esports scene on PC, I guess there’s been no real motive to release a proper sequel.

In case you didn't know, CS:GO is a twitchy trigger, tactical first-person shooter. It pits two teams against each other, Terrorists vs Counter-Terrorists. Offering a variety of nine modes in total, the most common of which requires one team to plant a bomb, while the opposing team needs to stop them.

However, as reported by Dexerto, according to a recent rumour, it appears that CS:GO might be getting its long-awaited sequel after more than ten years. The rumours are courtesy of a new NVIDIA driver update which contains an executable called “csgos2.exe” as well as “cs2.exe”.

The driver update in question was discovered by Redditor, DAOWAce who shared the news in a post sparking excitement amongst fans of the series.

Furthermore, the content creator of all CS:GO and Valve-related news, as well as being a talented Source modder, Gabe Follower did some investigating. Gabe discovered that the option for “csgos2” appears in every other NVIDIA driver. What’s more, this option first appeared sometime during February this year.

A Twitter user points out that this type of information isn't always the most reliable and uses previous leaks related to Titanfall 3 and Crysis 4 as examples. However, we do know that Crysis 4 is in development. Gabe Follower then responds by highlighting the fact that a lot of games have leaked in a similar fashion to that of the suspected arrival of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive 2.

Of course, we should take all rumours and speculation with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise. That being said, it’s potentially exciting news and as they say, watch this space.
