'Cyberpunk 2077' Characters Look So Much Better In New-Gen Upgrade

So, CD Projekt Red dropped a bit of a bombshell on us earlier this week, when they not only announced the contents of the ginormous 1.5 Patch and free DLC for Cyberpunk 2077, but the fact that it was dropping right there and then for new-gen console users.

The main improvements added in this update, assuming you own a PS5 or Xbox Series X that is, were probably the visual upgrades, which include ray tracing features, 4K with dynamic scaling, faster loading times, and other technical improvements. And oh boy, it really has made a significant difference.

Cyberpunk 2077 has been on quite a journey since it was announced - check out this teaser, which was first shown off at E3 2013.

Fans over on Reddit have been sharing before-and-after comparison shots of the game, and the character models in particular are looking so much better than before. In this post by u/ipod117, you’d be forgiven for thinking the two pictures came from completely different games.

Other users in the comments have been equally impressed: “Wait. I literally thought this was a joke post using a cosplay picture. Holy cow,” said d_ohface. “Great capture and post to show us the before and after. The sharpness in detail is really astounding,” wrote Skrip77.

So, not bad for a game that was basically universally loathed upon its release for being buggy and unfinished, eh? Unfortunately though, some things never change, and not everything has been going super smoothly for PS5 users since the update dropped. Basically, some people have been facing issues when it comes to trying to upgrade the game using a physical PS4 disc - while the new-gen console is meant to recognise that you own it, and allow the free PS5 download via the store, that hasn’t been working for everyone. The devs are currently working on a fix for that though, so if you’re struggling with it, it won’t be forever.

Otherwise, if you’re an Xbox user, don’t forget that you can download a five-hour trial for free and transfer your progress to the full version, if you want to give it a go. There’s also rumours that the game might soon be on its way to Game Pass, although you’d imagine that would have been announced back during CD Projekt Red’s livestream if it was going to happen. Either way, it’s a good time at the moment for Cyberpunk fans, and it seems the game might finally be repairing its shattered reputation - even if only a little bit.
