'Cyberpunk 2077' PS5 Upgrade Has Two Serious Issues, CDPR Investigating

'Cyberpunk 2077' PS5 Upgrade Has Two Serious Issues, CDPR Investigating

It's never easy, is it?

Earlier this week CD Projekt RED finally launched the long-awaited new-gen versions of Cyberpunk 2077 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, along with a ton of new content, updates, and general quality-of-life improvements.

For many, this was the first real step towards Cyberpunk 2077 being the game people hoped it would be. A more detailed open world, better visuals, a distinct lack of serious bugs around each corner. This is the game we wanted, right? Unfortunately, a number of PS5 users are running into problems as a result of the upgrade. Sigh.

To be fair to CDPR, it appears that these issues have less to do with the developer and far more to do with PlayStation's thoroughly horrendous approach to PS5 upgrades. If you've ever tried upgrading a PS4 game to its new-gen version, you'll know it's nowhere near as easy as it is on an Xbox.

As of right now, there are two major issues with the PS5 upgrade. The first is that some (but not all) players are having problems when trying to upgrade the game using their physical Cyberpunk 2077 PS4 disc. While it's supposed to be a simple case of your PS5 recognising that you already own the game and allowing the free PS5 download via the store, it doesn't seem to have worked out that way. Fortunately, CDPR is currently looking into a fix for this and hopes to have a solution soon.

The developer is also aiming to allow players to transfer their Trophy data from PS4 to PS5, although it's less certain when, or even if, this will be able to happen. It's worth noting that other third-party games with new-gen upgrades, including Assassin's Creed Valhalla, allowed Trophy data to carry over in later updates. It is possible, then. But for now, you'll have to assume you're earning those Trophies all over again.
