It’s no secret that Days Gone fans want a sequel, but it’s abundantly clear that they’re not getting one.
Days Gone has seen a huge resurgence in popularity in recent months, with many putting it down to the game’s inclusion on PlayStation Plus and a rise in interest in post-apocalyptic narratives after HBO’s The Last of Us finished airing on TV. Sony actually turned down the possibility of a Days Gone sequel back in 2019. In the years since, fans have begged them to reconsider, with Days Gone’s director recently confessing that in theory, the sequel could've been released in April of this year if they’d been able to go ahead. Due to that recent popularity resurgence though, Bend Studio posted something that had fans thinking Sony had reconsidered their stance.

Over on Twitter, Bend Studio recently posted an image of singer and actress Rina Sawayama as a Days Gone character riding on a motorbike. The tweet read, “Fueled up and ready to hit the Broken Road, Rina Sawayama jumps on the Drifter bike to brave the dangerous world of Days Gone in the latest PlayStation Playmakers announcement. #Bend30.”

You can understand how fans quickly became confused. Some thought that a Days Gone sequel had finally been announced with a new protagonist. Others thought it might be a still from a film adaptation. Having the word ‘announcement’ and the hashtag celebrating the studio’s third anniversary in the tweet certainly made it seem like a big deal at first glance. The image is actually just part of a wider PlayStation marketing campaign that puts celebrities who happen to love gaming into the world of some of their favourite games.
If it's any consolation, I’d imagine we’re close to Bend Studio announcing something new. Days Gone was released back in 2019. That means devs have been beavering away on another project for at least four years. Rumours suggest that they may have taken charge of the Uncharted franchise, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
