'Dead Island 2' Might Finally Be Released After Ten Years In Development

Several sources have come together and are all forming the same conclusions. Dead Island 2 might actually finally be released after ten years in development. The first Dead Island game was released back in 2011, and developed by Techland, known most recently for releasing Dying Light 2: Stay Human. Three years later a sequel was announced along with some additional DLC for the zombie survival game. Since then, development has been anything but smooth.

The development studio has reportedly changed twice so far. Initially being made by Spec Ops: The Line studio, Yager Development, then passed on to Sumo Digital, who are best known for their racing games, but have also worked on a plethora of other titles such as Crackdown 3. Currently, it is being worked on by Dambuster Studios, which was founded by publisher Deep Silver. Through all of this, reports of what was going regarding the status of the game have been very slim.

People have been curious about what's going on in Dead Island 2's development since insider Tom Henderson released a video last week giving various hints about the game. The basis of the video was that he had been informed that development was going well, footage would be shown soon, and that a full release was expected for late 2022 or early 2023.

“According to everyone that I’ve been speaking to… the game is in a decent state, and it could be announced pretty soon with some kind of gameplay trailer. - A release date is expected to be somewhere in Q4 2022, possibly leading up to next year if there are any problems with the development cycle."

Now as reported by VGC, during an earnings meeting by Deep Silver's parent company Embracer, when asked if the sequel would be released before the end of the financial year March 2023, CEO Lars Wingfors said:

 “I can’t talk about Dead Island 2 because it’s not announced as such from the publisher. But we have just talked about ... we have one unannounced AAA title… that you think is Dead Island 2, so it’s hard for me to comment further on that, but I am excited about unannounced titles.” 

It seems it won't be long before we are fighting zombies once more.
