Dead Space movie in development, according to John Carpenter

Film director John Carpenter believes that "another director" is currently involved with a Dead Space movie.

John Carpenter, the iconic film director arguably best known for his work on the Halloween series and Escape from New York has hinted that a Dead Space movie is in the works, although he isn’t involved with it.

It’s an exciting time for Dead Space fans - the highly anticipated remake of the first game is set to release at the end of the month, and I hope you’re prepared for the sleepless nights that’ll come with that. If you’re totally new to the series, you might want to preorder the game on Steam - those who do will also receive Dead Space 2 as a bonus.

Take a look at the trailer for Dead Space (2023) below.

Apparently though, it might not just be the remake that we have to look forward to. Last year, John Carpenter expressed that he’d be interested in directing a Dead Space movie, and in a recent interview with Variety, he was asked if there were any updates on that. Unfortunately for fans of his work, he’s not been given the reins for a screen adaptation, but he believes that it's still happening with a different director.

“I’m a big video game fan, so I played all the games. I was down looking at the new digital cameras, the RED, and happened to mention to them that I would love to do a Dead Space film,” he explained. “That just went around, and everybody said, ‘Oh, when are you gonna do it?’ I’m not gonna do it. I think they already have another director involved. And they haven’t asked me to do it. So until someone asks me, I wouldn’t do it. But there’s a new version of the Dead Space video game coming out in January, and I’m there.”

We definitely shouldn’t take this as official confirmation of a movie happening, but it does sound like Carpenter has reason to believe that something’s going on, so that’s really exciting. We'll have to wait and see if it's true, and if so, who's working on it instead of him. There's no doubt that it'd be absolute nightmare fuel.
