'Deadpool 3' Writer Teases Deadpool's MCU Debut

'Deadpool 3' Writer Teases Deadpool's MCU Debut

Deadpool 3 writer Rhett Reese has opened up about how Wade Wilson will adapt to life in the MCU.

Marvel fans will likely know that a while back, Disney acquired 20th Century Fox which means that the film rights for X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Deadpool now belong to the house of mouse. Since then, we’ve all been wondering just how Ryan Reynolds’ bad-mouthed merc will fit into the family-friendly MCU, and that’s all starting to become a little bit clearer.

One thing we do know is that Deadpool 3 will once again be R-rated which is a relief. Do you remember that time Wade Wilson joked about the MCU? He said, “What are you expecting, Sam Jackson to show up with an eyepatch and a saucy little leather number?” Well, maybe there was more to this ‘joke’ than meets the eye as Deadpool 3’s writer is now opening up on Wilson’s MCU debut.

Speaking of the MCU, Thor: Love and Thunder hits cinemas next month. Check out the trailer below ahead of the film’s July release.

In an interview with BroBible’s Post-Credits Podcast, Deadpool 3 writer Rhett Reese teased the film as a “fish-out-of-water” story which will see Wilson adjust to his new reality of existing within the MCU. Knowing what Wilson is like, I’m sure he’ll commentate the entire experience with his usual snark.

Reese said, “It's a wonderful opportunity for [a] fish-out-of-water [story]. Deadpool is a lunatic at the centre of a movie. To drop a lunatic into a very sane world, it's straight butter. It's going to be really fun."

Reese went on to add that the writers may even drop a Morbius joke into the film, seeing as Morbius recently became the most memeable Marvel film of all time (I decreed that title just now). Reese noted, “We haven't seen Morbius. We haven't even seen the memes. But now it's on our radar,” later adding that now they’ll “have to” incorporate a joke. Both Deadpool films are excellent and based on what we’ve heard of Deadpool 3, I can’t help but feel that we’re in for yet another treat.
