There were so many rumours and predictions out there circling last night's PlayStation State Of Play like vultures, it's quite shocking that literally none of them were correct.
We are not talking far-off pipe dreams here. We're talking rumours such as a Sly Cooper reboot, which had so many elements apparently proving its existence, so the fact that it had the audacity to not show itself is really quite inconsiderate. And it wasn't only fans of the sneaky raccoon who were disappointed by what was shown at PlayStation's latest new-games showcase.
Fans of Sucker Punch's PlayStation 2-era series of sneaking about the place were not nearly as baited as Dino Crisis enthusiasts. Last night's State Of Play started out with a mention of "dinos" which were causing some sort of "crisis" in the city. Then we saw the Capcom logo. Then the sky opened up and raptors rained down like waves of disappointment.
If you want to see just how much the trailer for Exoprimal baited us, you can see the whole thing below...

Capcom really did not stop teasing fans throughout the whole reveal trailer. But now we've seen what they've been working on, those that had heard that Capcom was working on a Dino Crisis game have surely conceded that it must actually be this new IP, Exoprimal. The people of Twitter have been working like Professor Layton to place the pieces together on just how far PlayStation went to sink our hopes.
There are those who compared one of the characters shown to Regina from the PS1 classic. Which we have to say is a pretty close match.

Even those who didn't catch the State Of Play realised what Capcom and PlayStation were trying to do here.

In conclusion, I think this tweet sums it up nicely.
In case you missed it, Capcom has announced a "dino killing" game with one of its characters resembling someone we know dearly.

I'm sorry, Dino Crisis fam. This is what we got. pic.twitter.com/n6LEPnmQhq
Of course this could be an elaborate set up for Exoprimal being some sort of spiritual successor - or even a prelude to, y'know, the announcement of what we've wanted for ages now. Though by the looks of things this one is more Earth Defense Force than Dino Crisis. Nothing wrong with that, in and of itself... But it's not Dino Crisis, is it.
