Disney+ Is Definitely "Underpriced," Says CEO, Ahead Of Price Hike

Disney does get some absolutely amazing exclusives.

Disney CEO Bob Chapek has stated that Disney+ is definitely "underpriced" when you consider the sheer volume and quality of the shows, films and documentaries that are offered on the streaming service.

Not only is this a factor, you've got to remember that Disney+ is accessible across your TV, laptop, tablet, mobile phone and games console, and you are able to download these shows and films to take with you on long journeys and so on. Different profiles let users enjoy just the genres that they want to watch, parental controls ensure that the tykes are watching things that are safe for them, and you can stream on four screens simultaneously.

As these comments have come ahead of a price increase, Chapek's stance might raise some eyebrows, however the new cost will still be cheaper than a couple of Disney+ competitors. “I think we’re way underpriced relative to the value we provide,” said the CEO at the Goldman Sachs’ Communacopia + Technology Conference 2022 (thanks to Variety). “We have an embarrassment of riches in terms of the plethora of content we have coming from our creative engines,” he added, referring to upcoming shows and films like Ironheart, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Avatar: The Way of Water, Indiana Jones 5 and The Little Mermaid. While a huge number of people have cancelled their subscriptions to streaming services, Disney reported 221 million users across Disney+, ESPN+ and Hulu. Of course, its revenue per person is still rather low, but the new price hike should start to close the gap between Disney+ and others like Netflix and Amazon Prime.
