DS game prices in CeX leave gamers stunned

Back in my day, I remember being able to walk into Tesco’s video game section and being able to pick up a brand new Nintendo DS game for £30. It was a better time. It was a simpler time.

Things have changed significantly since then. Obviously, a new-gen game now costs more than most older games did because of them now being more expensive to produce (as well as inflation in general), but the prices of certain retro titles have also skyrocketed over the years, meaning that some DS games are now worth a small fortune. Yes, DS games definitely count as retro now. Sorry.

Over on Reddit, gamers are shocked about the price of pre-owned copies of Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver in UK retailer CeX. At the time of writing, the two sell for £98 and £90 respectively, without the Pokéwalker add-on accessory (which brings things up to £150/£160, depending on the version you want to buy).

However, compared to other prices for the two games that were shared in the thread, that’s nothing: “I went to a game store in my state once. Had a boxed copy of HeartGold with the Pokéwalker for the low low price of $400. For comparison, the same store was selling a Japanese orange GameCube with a matching GB Player and maybe the controller [plus] some games for the same price,” Nova17Delta commented. “I got SoulSilver back in the day, but moved shortly after getting it and it got lost in the shuffle so I never ended up opening it, so it's [complete in box] and the actual game is sealed. I found it recently and sold it to a retro game store and it was like $300,” wildfire393 wrote.

HeartGold and SoulSilver are brilliant remakes of the iconic second generation Pokémon games, Gold and Silver, and have been incredibly popular since their release. If you still own either of them, you’ll definitely want to make sure that you keep them safe.
