'Dying Light 2' Already Has Way More Players Than The First Game

Happy Dying Light 2 release weekend, all. Hopefully all of you who've been desperately counting down the weeks, months and even years since the game was first announced in 2018 have finally been able to sink your teeth in (hah) to the game by now.

Well, clearly enough people must have, because the player numbers have already soared way past what its predecessor ever had. According to GitHyp, as of yesterday (so, you know, release day), the game already has four times more players than Dying Light did at its all time peak. Wow.

Dying Light 2 is out now - in case you missed it, be sure to check out the trailer below.

So, to be exact, the peak number of concurrent players on Steam for the newly released sequel as of yesterday was 164k, and on the other hand, the first game’s peak was 46k. It's also doing a lot better than the other Dying Light game, which you might not have even been aware of if its player numbers are anything to go by. Techland’s attempt at a battle royale game, Dying Light: Bad Blood (which released back in 2018), had a painfully low peak of 455 players. So, yeah, I think the sequel has just about surpassed that one, too.

Chances are, the sequel’s popularity is only going to grow, too. Critical reception for the game has been pretty great, and with players originally being advised to be wary of bugs at release, there’s probably going to be a slightly belated surge of people hopping on a bit later than usual. If you’re personally worried about bugs though, fear not - a massive day-one patch has already gone live, with over 1000 different bug fixes and improvements in tow.

If you weren’t already sold, in our review, Ewan Moore said that “the end of the world has never been so entertaining”, and that “Techland’s long-awaited zombie RPG mostly delivers the goods in style, providing an expansive - if not entirely original - open-world playground that’s filled with epic action, pleasingly brutal combat, and some difficult choices.” Tantalising! The game is available now on PC, Xbox One, Series X/S, PS4 and PS5
