EA Confirms 'Skate 4' Is Launching "Soon"

Yup, you’re reading that right, and no, it’s not clickbait. Now, almost 12 years on from the previous game in the series, it sounds like we’ll finally be seeing Skate 4 in all its glory very soon.

The game’s existence was first confirmed back in 2020, and a very self-aware teaser was dropped in July last year, which told us that the team were working on it, but it was very early in development. Honestly, you couldn’t even be mad at it if you tried - they clearly know just how anxious fans are to see literally anything of the game, and it’s pretty funny.

Well, we’ve actually got a bit more information about the game now thanks to EA’s Q3 2022 earnings call. As transcribed and reported by TweakTown, the CEO, Andrew Wilson, was talking about how user generated content (UGC) is super important to the company’s future, and it’s going to play a big part in Skate 4.

“It has been at the very centre of The Sims for a long time, it's at the very centre of modes like FIFA and Madden Ultimate Team, it's at the very centre [of] the design of Skate which will be launching soon,” Wilson said. “This UGC content is really just an extension of the social interaction that I'm able to have with my friends in and around experiencing this entertainment. I believe that's going to be a really important part of our future.”

In last year’s teaser trailer, although they were purposely being very vague about it all, if you listened closely to the fans who starred in the video, you could pick up a few comments which suggested a whole manner of things, including the confirmation of multiplayer (you’d certainly hope so), and even that the game might be completely open-world. For Wilson to say that the game is launching soon, that can surely only mean that we’ll be seeing some actual trailers for it before long, so we’ll have to see if those observations hold true.
