EA's Fight Night Reboot Has Been Put On Hold For Another Game

EA's Fight Night Reboot Has Been Put On Hold For Another Game

Fight Night fans have been waiting over a decade for a new entry in the series and it looks like they're going to have to wait a bit longer.

This certainly wasn’t the result boxing fans were hoping for. Just a few months ago, Electronic Arts looked set to green-light a Fight Night reboot after the boxing franchise had sat dormant for over a decade but I’m sorry to say folks, we shouldn’t plan on entering the ring anytime soon.

The Fight Night franchise spawned five successful entries, kicking off with Fight Night 2004. It’ll come as no surprise then that the rumoured reboot of the franchise conjured up some major excitement, but just six months after we heard that the reboot was in early development, it seems like our hopes are being crushed.

Take a trip down memory lane and cast your mind back to 2011's Fight Night Champion below.

If you’re a UK-based UFC fan, you’re probably pretty good at waiting by now - staying up until the early hours of the morning for the latest fight. The good news is that you might not be waiting very long for the next UFC gaming entry, although that’s at the expense of boxing fans.

Reportedly, EA has chosen to proceed with a UFC game instead of the rumoured Fight Night reboot. Reputed leaker Tom Henderson recently took to Twitter to say, “UFC 5 is summer 23 I believe. A Fight Night reboot had to be *paused* for it.” Sorry Fight Night fans.

UFC has seen a huge surge in popularity in recent years and this is partially the reason why Fight Night faded into oblivion in the first place. It’s an interesting move by EA as although the four-game UFC franchise has a steady fan base, it hasn’t taken off in the same way that franchises like FIFA or Madden have, nor does it have Fight Night’s cult following.

The beacon in the dark here is that the Fight Night reboot simply appears to be on pause so it should still be coming and heck, we’ve waited this long. It’s worth bearing in mind that neither game has officially been announced by EA yet, so all this must be taken with a pinch of salt.
