Elden Ring beats The Last Of Us Part 2's GOTY record

Elden Ring beats The Last Of Us Part 2's GOTY record

Elden Ring has apparently racked up over 330 GOTY awards, smashing The Last of Us Part II's impressive 2020 record.

It was obvious when Elden Ring released that it’d be picking up quite a few accolades when it came to award season. You don’t manage to bag that many 10/10 reviews without taking home some shiny awards.

And that it did - FromSoftware’s enormous RPG took on God of War Ragnarök head-to-head at The Game Awards late last year, and although Ragnarök won more accolades overall, Elden Ring was the one to grab the coveted Game of the Year award. While either would have been deserved winners (Kratos’ latest adventure was the GAMINGbible team’s personal number one), it’s not hard to see how Elden Ring stole the glory - it basically took over the internet for months after its release.

Countless Elden Ring players have been pulling off some wildly difficult challenges since its release - check out this streamer beating the game using a dance mat below.

It wasn’t just The Game Awards that crowned Elden Ring as 2022’s best game, though. As TheGamer reports, so many outlets have now named it as their GOTY that it appears to have beaten The Last of Us Part II’s almighty 2020 record.

Users on ResetEra have been keeping count of all of 2022’s GOTY awards, accounting for both media outlets and readers’ choice awards. At the time of writing, and assuming their figures are correct, Elden Ring has managed to rack up 331 awards, and the number just keeps rising. Of those, 287 were awarded by media outlets, and 44 from readers’ choice.

To put things into perspective, The Last of Us Part II earned 322 awards in 2020 (thanks, TheGamer) - at the time, it definitely felt like a complete TLOU sweep. Elden Ring has earned its crown, though - it makes you wonder how good a game will have to be to kick it from its number one spot.
