Both Elden Ring and the DOOM franchise are known for their brutal difficulty in testing gamers' patience, reflexes and stubbornness to succeed. However, what if we could blend with worlds of both games, that would be quite the concept, right?
Judging by the gameplay trailer for the fantasy FPS game, Witchfire, that concept looks to be a reality. Developed and published by indie studio The Astronauts, Witchfire is described as a ‘Dark Fantasy’ with guns and it looks to be an absolute blast.

Currently, in its early access phase and available on the Epic Games Store, Witchfire is: “a first-person shooter from the creative leads behind Painkiller and Bulletstorm. A unique blend of Souslike, extraction and roguelite gameplay, Witchfire offers a challenging but satisfying gameplay experience, and with multiple roads to victory.”

Other than being inspired by the likes of Elden Ring and DOOM, the fact that Witchfire is being developed by some of the creators of Painkiller and Bulletstorm should be enough to excite gamers promising intense high-octane gameplay. What’s more, The Astronauts are also responsible for bringing us the brilliant narrative adventure, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter from 2014.
“Desperate for a chance to triumph in the deadly war against witches, the Church calls on forbidden pagan magic to turn willing sinners into immortal witch hunters called prayers,” reads the synopsis of the game. “Armed with powerful spells and fearsome firearms conjured by the best Vatican sorcerers, your mission is to find the infamous witch of the Black Sea, destroy the phantom army that protects her, and retrieve a mysterious artefact that can finally turn the tide of war.”
Witchfire arrived on early access in September 2023, but at the time of writing a full release date hasn't been announced. Hopefully, that information will arrive soon along with the news that Witchfire is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. We’ll have our fingers crossed.
