'Elden Ring' Crashes Into Steam's Top 10 Most Played Games Ever

Isn’t it nice when a very highly anticipated game actually lives up to expectations? It’s safe to say that Elden Ring has definitely managed that, with its array of 10/10 reviews (ours included) and seemingly the entire internet losing themselves in the Lands Between, surrendering their souls to the ridiculously powerful bosses.

Well, in case you needed any more proof of that, according to SteamDB, it’s now managed to smash its way into the top 10 most played games on Steam, for concurrents, of all time. As reported by Eurogamer, FromSoftware’s latest has managed to beat the likes of Among Us, Fallout 4 and Grand Theft Auto V when it comes to its concurrent player peak.

You're not really supposed to beat Elden Ring's very first boss, but it is possible, and the result is amazing - check it out below.

To be precise, its concurrent player peak fell just short of a million, landing at 953,426 simultaneous players, confirming its place at number six on the ‘most played games’ list for concurrents. I’m sure I don’t need to tell you that that’s quite a lot of people. As for its competition, it only falls behind Cyberpunk 2077, Dota 2, CS:GO, Lost Ark and PUBG: Battlegrounds. It’s a pretty big deal.

It’s no wonder that the player count is so high when you consider the actual sales numbers. Last week it was revealed that, in the UK, the game’s combined digital and physical sales have made it the biggest launch for a game that isn’t Call of Duty or FIFA since the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 back in 2018, which is huge.

Not everyone is happy with the game, though. Despite its overwhelmingly positive critical reception, that’s not stopped some players on Metacritic from bombarding the title with incredibly negative reviews - a lot of the time, for very little reason. While a number of people have been complaining about some of the performance issues on the PC version (understandable), others have blasted it for not being “an insult to gaming”, for some reason.

Obviously, some of the frustrations players have had with Elden Ring have been surrounding its difficulty, which isn’t unreasonable at all. If you’re struggling a bit, be sure to check out some of our best hints and tips here.
