Elder Scrolls 6 PS5 release may happen after all

Console exclusivity is always going to lead to envy, unless you happen to own all of the available console options. If that’s not you though, you can understand why Xbox fans are itching to get their hands on Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, or why PlayStation fans are desperate to give Starfield a whirl.

The Elder Scrolls VI is on the way and given Starfield’s Xbox exclusivity - following Microsoft’s previous acquisition of Bethesda parent company ZeniMax - many assumed that it would also be exclusively available on the green brand. In recent weeks, Bethesda chief Todd Howard confirmed that it may actually be his last game, given how long Bethesda take to develop their titles combined with the lengthy post-launch support. In fact, just the other week, Howard teased The Elder Scrolls VI’s potential release window. It turns out though, the game may not even be an Xbox exclusive after all.

As you may have heard, Microsoft has recently been facing off against the US’ Federal Trade Commission who filed a temporary restraining order and injunction in an attempt to block the $68.7 billion Activision acquisition deal. During the trial, many details have been leaked relating to both Xbox, Bethesda, and even PlayStation. In the latest instance, as reported by Push Square, lawyers asked Xbox boss Phil Spencer about The Elder Scrolls VI’s release plans.

Previously, the game was stated to be an Xbox and PC release. During the trial, Spencer replied, “It’s so far out it’s hard to understand what the platforms will even be. We’re talking about a game that’s five-plus years away.” It’s by no means confirmation that The Elder Scrolls VI is coming to PlayStation, but it’s interesting that Spencer decided not to outright refuse the possibility.

Then again, it’s in Spencer’s best interests to give the appearance of considering cross-platform releases as that’s something that’s more likely to sway regulators into approving the Activision deal. We’ll continue to keep a close eye on this one.
