New Elder Scrolls remake has 3 times as many NPCs as Skyrim

New Elder Scrolls remake has 3 times as many NPCs as Skyrim

An Elder Scrolls classic is being reborn

When it comes to fantasy RPGs, few do it better than The Elder Scrolls. Yet, with the addition of talented modders, our favourite entries in the beloved series are often made even better than ever.

The Elder Scrolls series from Bethesda began in 1994 as a humble MS-DOS title but since that time it has grown into the goliath that it is today. The series was arguably brought to a new level of quality and immersion with The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind in 2002, followed by Oblivion in 2006 and of course Skyrim in 2011.

Check out the Morrowind trailer below!

As much as we’re waiting for a release date and gameplay trailer for The Elder Scrolls VI, a game that was announced during E3 2018, fans of the series love a heavy dose of nostalgia and if that sounds like you, then this fan remake might be worth your attention.

Skywind is a remake of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind built from the ground up using Bethesda’s Creation Engine, the same engine that is used to power Skyrim and Fallout 4. To say that Skywind is a massive project would be an understatement because not only has it been nearly 13 years in development but it also boasts three times as many NPCs as Skyrim.

Skywind sheds the shackles of the older game, bringing modern graphics, assets, and sounds, a full cast of voice actors, and all the benefits of fifteen years of gaming improvements while preserving the incredible characters, locations, and quests with which Morrowind charmed the world all those years ago,” reads the description of the remake.

Uploaded on the Skywind YouTube channel, the developers of the remake have published a developer diary of the project detailing its history and how far it has come over the last decade or so.

According to the creators of the Morrowind remake, it has around 3,000 NPCs voiced by around 300 actors. This is in comparison to around 1,100 NPCs and 70 actors of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

The Morrowind remake will also benefit from new characters, dialogue, environments, quests and much more. No release date has been announced for the Skywind but hopefully, we’ll see it be released this year or 2025 at the latest.

It must also be stated that even though The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim does have compatible mods available for PlayStation and Xbox, with a project as huge as Skywind, this particular mod is PC only.
