Everything Announced By Marvel During San Diego Comic Con

It was always going to be a challenge for Marvel to build momentum going into the MCU’s latest phase. Avengers: Endgame marked the end of The Infinity Saga and whilst phase four has introduced us to some incredible new characters, many have questioned where the franchise is headed.

We now know that we’re in the midst of The Multiverse Saga, which isn’t a total surprise given that the Multiverse has heavily featured in several phase four projects, namely Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness, and Loki. As is tradition, Marvel took to San Diego Comic Con’s Hall H to announce a bajillion projects and we’re here to talk you through all of them. Buckle up.

Let’s start off with a project that’s set to hit our screens very soon. Check out the brand new trailer for She-Hulk: Attorney At Law.

Next on the MCU slate, we have I Am Groot which is a series of five animated shorts. If you’ve ever wondered what happens when Groot farts, you’re going to want to stick around for this one. She-Hulk: Attorney At Law will then debut on Disney Plus on 17 August. The show centres around Tatiana Maslany’s She-Hulk as she’s trained by cousin Bruce Banner in what it takes to be a Hulk. Rather excitingly, Kevin Feige announced that Charlie Cox’s Daredevil and Benedict Wong’s Wong are also set to appear in the series.

Phase Four then ends with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever which will release on 11 November, 2022. The epic trailer might just be Marvel’s best yet. It teased the arrival of mutant villain Namor, and showed a Wakanda in mourning as the film is set to reflect on the tragic passing of T’Challa actor Chadwick Boseman.

Looking further ahead, we now have our full phase five line-up. Phase five will kick off with Ant Man & The Wasp (17 February, 2023) which is set to feature Jonathan Majors’ Kang who appears to be The Multiverse Saga’s ultimate big bad. We’ll then move onto Secret Invasion (Spring 2023). The Disney Plus series sees Nick Fury and Maria Hill team up to deal with a Skrull infiltration. A trailer was debuted for attendees but is otherwise being kept under wraps. Don Cheadle’s James Rhodes will also star in the series.

James Gunn’s long-awaited Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will then debut on 5 May, 2023, and this is set to be the final Guardians film. Once again, a secret trailer was shown to attendees which, thanks to the Multiverse, reportedly featured Gamora. Echo - a spin-off of Hawkeye - will debut in Summer 2023, also featuring Daredevil, and Ms. Marvel and Captain Marvel will officially team up in The Marvels (28 July, 2023).

Season two of Loki then drops (Summer 2023) followed by Blade (3 November, 2023) and Ironheart (Fall 2023). Ironheart / Riri Williams will first appear in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. After Blade, we’ve got Agatha: Coven of Witches (Winter 2023/4) which is a spin-off of Wandavision, followed by Daredevil: Born Again (Spring 2024). The 18-episode series featuring Charlie Cox’s Daredevil was one of the major highlights of the panel.

Are you still with me? We’re almost there. After that, Anthony Mackie’s take on Captain America finally gets a solo outing in Captain America: New World Order (3 May, 2024) before phase five finally concludes with team-up film Thunderbolts (26 July, 2024).

Don’t tell me you’re all Marvel-ed out because there’s more! We also know that phase six will kick off with Fantastic Four on 8 November, 2024 and will conclude with two Avengers films in 2025 - Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (2 May, 2025) and Avengers: Secret Wars (7 November, 2025). 

Marvel also teased animated series Spider-Man: Freshman Year and whilst Cox is set to appear as Daredevil, Tom Holland isn’t currently set to reprise his role. Concept art was revealed for the show, but it doesn’t look like it’ll be officially considered a part of the MCU line-up which is weird as Freshman Year was originally pitched as a canonical origin story. Likewise, What If…? will return for a second season in early 2023 but this was announced outside of the main Marvel panel. Gosh, that is a lot of Marvel content. I say, bring it on.
