There’s probably no video game as hot as Bethesda’s Fallout 4 right now in large part due to the recent success of the live-action adaptation from Amazon Studios.
The Fallout series from Amazon Studios is further proof that much like HBO’s The Last of Us, live-action video game adaptations can work if treated with the right amount of respect. What’s more, the Fallout series has proven to be such a success that it’s already been renewed for season two.

Hanging on the coattails of the success of the series, the likes of Fallout 4 and Fallout 76 have benefited from a huge increase in concurrent players across PC, PlayStation and Xbox. Furthermore, those who are playing Fallout 4 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S can enjoy the recently released new-gen update.

Well, not all players have been enjoying the update. First, PlayStation Plus subscribers were unable to access the free update (thankfully, that issue is now fixed). However, those playing on Xbox Series X have discovered that the update isn't working at all.
Fallout 4 players should have the choice of playing the game favouring 60 frames per second at the expense of a lower resolution or 30fps with a 4K resolution. Sadly, at this time, only the performance mode is working until Bethesda finds a fix.
However, that is not all, because when PC players choose to play Fallout 4 in wide-screen mode, the screen is stretched rather than being correctly optimised. Yet, thanks to the ever-vibrant Bethesda modding community, talented modder P40L0 has taken matters into their own hands.
Available now for free via Nexusmods, the ‘True Next-Gen Overhaul’ mod can be downloaded now for the PC version of Fallout 4. Unfortunately, you can only access the Nexusmods page with an over 18’s account but thankfully users on ResetEra have us covered.

The ‘True Next-Gen Overhaul’ mod has curated a selection of mods to provide the best Fallout 4 experience possible. The mod takes advantage of reworked Global Illumination and Reflections with gorgeous 4K textures for character models and environments, as well as a dynamic weather system and effects.
Moreover, not only has the audio been improved but there has also been a whole host of gameplay tweaks, quality-of-life and HUD improvements, bug fixes and much more. It continues to amaze me that at times, indie developers can do a better job at improving a game than the official developers.
Fallout 4 is out now on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. It’s also available to subscribers of PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass at no extra cost.
