'Fallout: London' Developer Has Been Hired By Bethesda

Chances are, if you’re a Fallout fan, you’ve probably heard of the excellent fan-made Fallout 4 mod, Fallout: London. Calling the project a mod almost feels like a disservice - it’s more like a massive new chunk of DLC, all set in post-apocalyptic London (who’d have guessed?).

It might not be official content, but it has a huge following of fans who are all eagerly anticipating its release (which was confirmed to be happening next year, in a new trailer earlier this week). Now though, as reported by PC Gamer, the mod’s lead technical adviser, Ryan Johnson, is leaving to move to a new role with none other than Bethesda themselves.

ICYMI... check out the latest trailer for Fallout: London right here.

The news was announced on Twitter by the Fallout: London team: “We have a few very special and bittersweet announcements for you all today,” they wrote. “Our Lead Technical Adviser Ryan Johnson […] will be departing the project to go and work at Bethesda as an Associate Level Designer.”

In his time working on Fallout: London, Johnson had been advising the project’s level designers, but the team has already planned ahead for his departure, so it shouldn’t impact development.

“Luckily for us, we have known about this move for awhile [sic] and thus [Johnson] has helped collate his knowledge into invaluable design documentation so the rest of the team can work on in his stead seamlessly,” they continued. “More so, [Johnson] finished all of his expected level design tasks as well as a few extra ones we didn't expect him to do! The [man’s] professionalism and dedication will honestly and truly be missed and felt throughout the team, however it brings us hand on heart joy to know that he will be taking his amazing talents to a company we all love.”

It’s not been revealed what game (or games) Johnson will be working on when he makes his move, it could well be Fallout 5. The Fallout: London team also revealed that their project lead, Dean Carter, had been offered a position at Bethesda’s UK branch to work on Fallout 76, but after “some very hard soul searching”, decided to decline in favour of continuing with the fan project.
