'Fallout: New Vegas 2' Is In Discussion At Microsoft

Ever since Microsoft bought Activision Blizzard for the price of several small countries, people have been wondering what they will be doing with its wealth of new franchises. While there has been whispers of it bringing back an old trilogy and giving it the Master Chief Collection treatment, nothing of substance has been released so far.

In 2020, Microsoft purchased ZeniMax Media, the parent company of Bethesda, and as such one of the series rumoured to get the collection treatment was Fallout. While fans haven't been too inspired by Fallout's offerings of late, there is still a lot of love for the older titles in the series. In particular 2010's Fallout: New Vegas has had more mods, more fan made sequels , and more 4K upgrades to those fan made sequels than you can shake a stick at.

Fans might be able to stop toiling away at their own Fallout games, as new info suggests Microsoft are considering an official sequel. On his show GrubbSnax, transcribed by VGC, reporter Jeff Grubb had some exciting inside knowledge about the world of New Vegas to share.

“This is very early, but people have begun to have talks and say these words in sentences, and those words are Obsidian and New Vegas 2. We’re talking years and years away. There’s at least an interest and conversations happening about making something like that actually a reality.”

While this information is not all that promising, one of the writers on the original New Vegas, Chris Avellone tweeted "I know nothing about a New Vegas 2, but I do hope Bethesda allows it." Despite no longer working at developer Obsidian, he had some insight on the former opinions held by Bethesda.

When asked if it's Microsoft's decision he said "Not if they're allowing studios to maintain their creative direction of their products. My understanding is that if Todd Howard tells Phil Spencer "nope," it probably isn't going to happen." Also replying to comments that Microsoft are keen on the project he answered "I wouldn't be surprised, it's a good idea, but Bethesda never wanted to pursue it after New Vegas."
