Radioactive horror awaits

If you're looking for something a little creepy to play, I might have just the thing for you. One of Steam's most promising new games looks to be the twisted baby of Fallout and Resident Evil, and it's completely free to try at the moment.

Demonsomnia is described as a "co-op multiplayer bodycam horror game about the impact of a nuclear reaction." There's your Fallout.

"Radiation has spread everywhere, put on your gas mask, go to the forest, collect objects and return to the mansion. Your goal is to collect evidence with the equipment and hunt the demon in the mansion." There's your Resident Evil.

Demonsomnia (sick name, by the way) is currently scheduled to launch in April, but if you head on over to Steam you'll be able to check out a completely free demo right now to get a feel for the horror. It definitely looks like one you won't want to miss, though I can't help but wonder if it'll get lost in what is already quite a crowded genre.

Developer Woziva is making Demonsomnia in Unreal Engine 5, and the murky bodycam aesthetic of the game definitely suits the horror vibe nicely. You'll also be able to play alone if you can't round up three other friends to play with, which is always welcome news for someone who generally dislikes other people as much as I do.

If Demonsomnia can nail the gameplay loop of exploring a haunted forest for gear before heading to the mansion to hunt down a demon with friends, then it could be one of the year's best surprises. I haven't had the chance to play the demo myself, but impressions from across Reddit suggest the moment-to-moment action could still do with some polishing. In other words, keep your expectations in check if you plan to give this one a go, and hope Woziva can smooth things out before April.
