Far Cry 5 free download and 60fps update announced

Far Cry 5 free download and 60fps update announced

Ubisoft has announced a 60fps patch for Far Cry 5 on new-gen consoles, as well as a free weekend later this month.

Good news, Far Cry fans - we didn’t all get hyped up for nothing.

Later this month, Far Cry 5 will celebrate its fifth anniversary (it’s genuinely concerning how fast the time has flown since 2018). Ubisoft teased this week that there’s plenty of anniversary announcements to look forward to in the coming weeks, and hinted that a “highly requested feature” would be arriving on new-gen consoles. At that point, everyone assumed that the game would be getting a 60fps patch, and lo and behold, Ubisoft has now made it official.

Take a look at our interview with Giancarlo Esposito on playing Far Cry 6’s villain, Antón Castillo.

“Today, Far Cry 5 is getting a 60fps patch on Xbox Series X/S and PS5 as part of its fifth anniversary celebrations,” Ubisoft confirmed in a blog post yesterday (16 March). “Take down Joseph Seed and his Heralds at twice the frame rate as you explore the different regions in Hope County and liberate its citizens. The 60fps patch applies to all of Far Cry 5’s game modes, as well as its three DLCs, Hours of Darkness, Lost on Mars, and Dead Living Zombies, making now the perfect time to dive into the backstories of Wendell Redler, Nick Rye, and Guy Marvel, respectively.”

The patch has also enhanced the game’s resolution on new-gen consoles - Xbox Series X owners can experience 3840x2160 and 4K resolution, and Xbox Series S users can run it at 1920x1080. Meanwhile on PS5, fans can play the game at 2880x1620.

If you’re yet to dive into Far Cry 5, it gets better. Gamers will be able to enjoy a free weekend between 23-27 March on all platforms. The 60fps patch will be applied for anyone playing on a new-gen console, and any progress you make will carry forward to the full game if you decide to buy it later.

Exciting stuff. Ubisoft previously said that there’ll be anniversary celebrations taking place over the next three weeks, so it sounds like we’ll have even more to look forward to soon.
