'Far Cry 7' Will Be A Live Service Game, Says Insider

Although Far Cry 6 has only just been released, it seems that Ubisoft is already on track to deliver the next installment of the series. Though we don’t have any solid details yet, one insider has come forward claiming that Far Cry 7 is actually going to be a live service game in the same way that Assassin’s Creed Infinity will be.

Jeff Grubb, a well known industry insider, has spoken on Twitter about the possible live-service edition of Far Cry in the works. This was prompted by the departure of one of Ubisoft’s top developers, Dan Hay, who was a creative director on the series. Grubb says that Hay was overseeing that project before he left and discloses that the idea for the game is very similar to the one Ubisoft has already revealed for Assassin’s Creed Infinity

Grubb’s tweet says: “Dan Hay was overseeing the next Far Cry, which is intended as a Far Cry live-service project similar to Assassin's Creed Infinity.” If you missed the semi-reveal of Assassin’s Creed Infinity, the intention of the live-service game is to continually build a world for fans to play in. Apparently Ubisoft’s intention isn’t to replace the normal series with this other game though, as other leakers claim that the game will be a platform to remake some of the older titles in the AC series as well as tell new stories.

For Far Cry, maybe something similar will happen. Far Cry games may be remade in this live version if it’s like Infinity, and then continue to receive missions or updates. That’s at least the most reasonable guess I have about the game so far. Ubisoft seems to be pushing live services alongside its mainline games, who knows which properties that might happen to next.
