A rumoured feature for Far Cry 7 sounds like exactly what the franchise needs to be exciting again.
The Far Cry games are all fantastic in their own ways. While Assassin’s Creed is Ubisoft’s flagship franchise, I’d argue Far Cry follows closely behind as the company’s next best IP. Unfortunately, the series has never really attempted to push the boat out in any memorable way, shown best through Far Cry 6 which was at its core just another Far Cry game.

While the DLC felt exciting and different to what we’d usually get, the rest of the game was a bit too familiar to what had come before it, though if insiders are to be believed, Far Cry 7 won’t have that problem thanks to a planned feature.

It’s reported Far Cry 7 will enforce a strict time limit on its players to complete the game before a countdown hits zero. It won’t be the first game to have done this, with arguably the best example being Capcom’s Dead Rising which added a sense of urgency to the player’s actions. Exactly how that’d translate to an enormous, Ubisoft-developed open world is unknown but it’d certainly make the gameplay feel more tense and exciting.
Another planned feature is reportedly an interrogation mechanic, but one that’ll let enemies lie to the player if they don’t feel threatened, meaning you could saunter off with some bad intel and wind up in a trap.
This could definitely be the wake-up and shake-up the Far Cry series needs to become more than a first-person survival shooter. Combine that with a decent story and compelling characters and another dastardly antagonist and Far Cry 7 could very well be the best game to date.
The release date for Far Cry 7 is unknown at the time of writing, as Ubisoft is yet to confirm the project’s existence.
