It’s great news today for people who are fans of balls, ideally those which are kicked with feet. That sounded weird. FIFA, I’m talking about FIFA. As reported by Xfire, it sounds like FIFA 23 is going to be including a feature that fans have been begging for, as well as a whole host of other nice improvements, too.
Reportedly, for the first time in the series’ history, the title will feature cross-platform play, allowing gamers on PC, Xbox and PlayStation to play together on all of the modes included. It’s about time, but better late than never, right? I imagine this will very likely be the biggest selling point for many players, but it doesn’t stop there.

Apparently, the game will also include both the men’s and women’s World Cups, which is really nice. Not only that, but reportedly, there have also been new improvements made to the game’s Hypermotion Technology which we first saw make an appearance in FIFA 22 - the technology is supposedly 10 times better, and will allow the devs to capture animations from real footballers using stadium cameras, during actual matches.

Potentially one of the most surprising things about this news is the fact that the game is actually still called FIFA. In case you were out of the loop, that might be a bit confusing, let me explain - in October last year, it was revealed that EA were considering dropping the iconic name from their football games going forward, which was, at the time, presumed to be due to licensing costs increasing.
Well, last week, it was reported that EA’s CEO, Andrew Wilson, had gone as far to say that the FIFA name is “an impediment”, and was actually stopping the company from implementing new gameplay features. As such, it seemed inevitable that we’d soon be seeing the games rebranded to “EA Sports FC”, which was trademarked last year. This could definitely still be happening, but seemingly not for at least another year.
At the time of writing, none of the information about FIFA 23 has been officially confirmed, but it comes from prominent industry insider Tom Henderson, who has been known to be very accurate in the past. We’ll have to wait and see what happens, but if it’s all true, it sounds like this year’s instalment of the game is going to be a good one.
