Here’s our first look at the Netflix live-action adaptation of the popular Manga series, One Piece. However, should fans be concerned?
While we’re yet to see the first trailer for the live-action series, Netflix has released the visual key art providing fans with a mere glimpse of what we can expect from the adaptation.

Netflix has some wonderful anime series on the streaming platform. Adaptations based upon video game franchises including Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Arcane (League of Legends), Castlevania and more have been well-received.

However, when it comes to Manga and anime live-action adaptations, it’s not quite been at the same level of success for Netflix. A prime example of one such failure is Cowboy Bebop, which was cancelled after one season. That being said, Netflix cancelling shows after a single season isn't all that shocking at this point.
If we were going to offer a degree of optimism, it would be the fact that both key art images released for the One Piece live-action series look to be very faithful. However, as the old saying goes, “You can’t judge a book by its cover.” So until this adaptation arrives later this year, we’ll never know for sure.

“In a seafaring world, a young pirate captain sets out with his crew to attain the title of Pirate King and to discover the mythical treasure One Piece,” reads the official description of the series.
Created by Steven Maeda (Lost) and Matt Owens (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D), the One Piece series will star Iñaki Godoy (Monkey D. Luffy), Mackenyu (Roronoa Zoro), Emily Rudd (Nami), Taz Skylar (Sanji) and Jacob Gibson (Usopp).
Season one of One Piece will launch on Netflix at some point during 2023 and will feature a total of ten episodes. However, while you wait for the arrival of the Netflix series, you can check out our review of One Piece: Odyssey, which we described as a “grand voyage with some chop”.
