Never Before Seen Footage Of Cancelled 'Star Wars 1313' Is Both Amazing And Heartbreaking

In those famous, wise words of Shigeru Miyamoto: “a delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad”. The wisdom that he didn’t give in that quote though is that a cancelled game is forever, well, nothing - and such is the tragedy of Star Wars 1313.
Does that name ring a bell? You’d be forgiven if it didn’t. It was first revealed back at E3 2012 - developed by LucasArts, players would take on the role of an unidentified bounty hunter, who’d be quickly killed by Boba Fett. You’d then play as Boba Fett for the rest of the game, exploring Level 1313 of Coruscant’s underworld. Unfortunately, production of the game was terminated in 2013, when LucasArts was shut down by Disney.

Well, if you ever had any level of investment in the game, this is going to blow your mind in the most heartbreaking way possible. Previously unseen gameplay footage has been revealed by the game’s in-game animation director, James Zachary, and published by The Vault, and it’s incredibly bittersweet. The video shows Boba Fett as a playable character, which we never got to see in the initial E3 demo.
Users in the YouTube comments section have been sharing their pain: “Literally looks like a predecessor to Fallen Order, who knew Mandalorian would come along and make us want this even more,” commented Jackie Estacado. “Would have been really cool to see this finished. Still could return one day with an up to date remake,” wrote Jediah.
Of course, cancelled games can always make a return - Metroid Dread is a glorious recent example of that, with it initially being attempted to be developed twice on the Nintendo DS back in 2005 and 2008. With The Book of Boba Fett currently taking the internet by storm (even though it’s not without its criticisms), now would honestly be the perfect time to bring it back. This week, EA announced the development of three new Star Wars games, so we’ll have to see if any of those could possibly be related.
