Footage Of Dr Disrespect's Game 'Deadrop' Begins Circulating Online

Herschel ‘Dr Disrespect’ Beahm is best known as a streamer, first and foremost. Namely, a controversial one, who was permanently banned from Twitch (for a still unknown reason) in 2020. In August last year, he announced that he’d be suing the platform as a result of the ban, although the dispute was resolved earlier this year.
Anyway, in case you were unaware, Beahm is also one of the co-founders of a new game studio, called Midnight Society, and as reported by Kotaku, the team have been working on a shooter which will apparently rival Call of Duty. Previously code named Project Moon, the game’s official title has now been revealed - Deadrop. And yes, it is just missing that second “D”.

Midnight Society have described Deadrop as a “vertical extraction shooter (VES) for a new age of competitive multiplayer”, and claim to be “building the best competitive PVP experience”.
“40 years into the Climate Wars, population and pollution levels skyrocket. Cities erect massive REFINER STATES - mega structures built to extract toxins from the stratosphere,” the synopsis on the studio’s website reads. “These towers are self-governed ‘city-states’ with only one export - SPACE DUST. A concentrate from the refined pollutants is bricked, cut, and sold to an addicted populous of the sprawling urban cities surrounding the structure.
“Once Government-owned facilities, the lucrative ‘DUST’ trade has now led to the forced occupation of the REFINER STATES by competing factions fighting for control of the towers and the resources inside,” it continues. “These factions, made up of Skins and Syns, compete against the occupying force of Cleaners who operate the Refiner State in a never-ending struggle for resources and gear.”
Now, some early supporters of the game have been given access to a tech demo, and videos of it have already begun appearing online. Things are looking pretty basic for now - yup, it’s a shooter, but it doesn’t really look groundbreaking, at least not yet. Take a look below.

Obviously, the game is still in development, so its lack of depth isn’t surprising, but in June, Beahm said during a livestream that even if you just took a screenshot from his game, nothing that was shown in the CoD: Modern Warfare II reveal trailer could match it. So, y’know, big words, and I'm not sure how many people would actually agree with him now we've seen what he was talking about.

Game development isn’t totally unknown territory for Dr Disrespect, though, as he previously worked as a Call of Duty level designer at Sledgehammer Games, so we’ll have to wait and see how the final product turns out. For now though, I think most people out there will be sticking to Call of Duty.
