Former 'Witcher 3' Devs Announce New, "Morally Ambiguous" RPG

Earlier this year, fans of The Witcher collectively exploded when it was announced that a fourth game in the series is on the way. Given that it is the fourth game, you could sort of call it The Witcher 4, but CD Projekt Red’s global PR director, Radek Grabowski, has made it quite clear that’s not what the game is called, actually. So don’t get it twisted.

Right now, we don’t know when the next game will actually be upon us - we frankly know very little about it other than what it’s not called, and that it’ll run on Unreal Engine 5. What we do know a little more about though is a new game coming from Fool’s Theory and 11 bit studios - two dev teams composed of “AAA veterans”, including some who worked on both The Witcher 2 and 3.

Take a look at the teaser trailer for Fool's Theory and 11 bit studios' upcoming game right here.

As reported by PCGamesN, the upcoming title is codenamed Project Vitriol, and is a whole new IP “targeted at mature recipients”. It’s also apparently “the largest project” the team has ever made (although I’d imagine that’s referring to their projects outside of CD Projekt Red).

Jakub Rokosz, the CEO of Fool’s Theory, has described Project Vitriol as “a deep, morally ambiguous narrative-driven RPG”, which is about “the esoteric side of reality, that dark part of the world that most of us don’t see and are not aware of its existence.” The story itself is set in “early XX century Warsaw, under imperial Russian tsardom”, where “reality, folklore, energy and mysticism met together in a melting pot”. Doesn’t exactly sound like a light, cheery number you’d wind down with before bed, but it’s all incredibly intriguing.

A full reveal of the game is coming this summer, so if you’re as curious about this one as me, then there’s not going to be too long to wait to see more of it - watch this space.
