Game Adaptations Announced For Multiple Netflix Shows

Game Adaptations Announced For Multiple Netflix Shows

New board game adaptations of Stranger Things, Ozark and Squid Game are set to release on 30 July in the US.

In case you missed it, earlier this week, it was announced that a new video game based on Netflix’s Korean thriller-horror series, Kingdom, is in the works. Kingdom: The Blood is coming to PC and mobile, and is set to stay true to the show, which is basically about a zombie apocalypse in medieval Korea. Definitely sounds like the perfect source material for a game, if you ask me.

Now though, as reported by Polygon, Netflix have announced three more game adaptations of some of their most popular series, although they’re perhaps not the type of game you’d immediately expect. Squid Game, Stranger Things and Ozark are all going to be making their way onto tabletops very soon, in board game form.

Before we get into it, take a look at the trailer for Kingdom: The Blood below.

Stranger Things has seen multiple video and board game adaptations over the years (including one which spoiled the fourth season before its release), so while this upcoming release isn’t groundbreaking, it still sounds pretty great. It’s a social deduction game called Stranger Things: Attack of the Mind Flayer, in which four to 10 players (split into two teams) go head-to-head to work out who amongst them has been possessed by the Mind Flayer. Think Among Us, except in physical form, and featuring Stranger Things characters. What’s not to love?

Meanwhile the Ozark game (simply titled Ozark) is a territory control game, which’ll see two to five players competing to launder money and control locations from the series - the person with the most money wins. So, Ozark Monopoly, then? I’m sure there’s more to it than that, but that seems to be the gist of it, anyway.

Finally, Squid Game (which like Ozark, just takes its name directly from the show) will pit three to six players against each other to compete in “Red Light/Green Light, Dalgona, Tug of War, Marbles, Glass Bridge and Squid Game”. The winner is the first person to reach the Squid Head after finishing all the games. Certainly sounds like a faithful adaptation!

In the US, all three of these games will be available to buy from Walmart for $24.86 from 30 July. There doesn’t seem to have been any word about how to get hold of them elsewhere in the world, although Zatu Games’ official site currently has Stranger Things: Attack of the Mind Flayer available to preorder in the UK, with an expected release window listed as August 2022 - we’ll have to watch this space.
