Earlier this year, Chilean YouTuber Tomás 'Tomii 11' Blanch took the internet by storm. Tomás was just 12 years old when he posted a video in April telling the world that it was his dream to be a famous YouTuber and reach one million subscribers.

His wish went viral. Fans and content creators around the world helped to spread the word. In the space of seven days, the young YouTuber had accumulated more than 3.4 million followers. Within the month, Tomás had broken the record for the highest organic growth in YouTube history. Tomás would post Minecraft videos, as well as regular life updates about his pets and day-to-day activities.

His bravery, not to mention his clear talent for for presenting and hosting, earned him a number of awards. A few months after his initial video blew up, Tomás had a huge collection of shiny play buttons from YouTube for hitting so many subscribers. He also bagged "Copihue de Oro" in the "YouTuber of the Year" category and the Giga Award for "Best YouTube Account" - a prize we imagine meant the world to him.

Unfortunately on August 30 Tomás' family confirmed that the promising young YouTuber had died as a result of his brain tumour. Tomás' uncle Alejandro Blanch, told Chilean publication Meganoticias, that the family was completely and utterly "dismayed".

"My brother and my sister-in-law are devastated," he said. "We believe that it has really been a kind of sweet and sour. He has won all the awards. He only wanted to tell his story of daily life, his horses, chicks, and cats on his YouTube channel. It was very moving."

Tributes from around the world have poured in for Tomás as the news continues to spread. Our hearts go out to the young creator's family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.
