An extremely rare first edition Charizard from the original Pokémon Trading Card Base Set has sold at auction for just shy of a quarter of a million dollars, and it's reportedly been scooped up by former rapper Logic.

The gavel slammed down at $226,000 (£173,000) on the card which has been rated as flawless by organisation PSA (considered one of the foremost authorities in grading of cards) who gave it a perfect 10 rating. For the curious, this makes it the highest known price of such a card.

Logic, who has recently left the music game to become a full-time Twitch streamer, tweeted Logan Paul saying that he was the one who put his money where his mouth was with the card. A long time fan of all things Pokémon, he spent $23,000 on an untouched Base Set, and was able to get a shiny Raichu and Charizard in that box. The guy is living all our dreams right now, honestly.

In a post made to his Instagram account, Logic explained his fascination and love with the little critters, stating that the 90s phenomenon was "something that [he's] loved since childhood now as a grown man is like buying back a piece of something I could never have."

Every time I see a story like this it makes me want to go into my mum's loft and pull out the binders and binders (and binders) of original Pokémon cards I amassed over a modest, but ultimately fruitless career as a Pokémon card battler. I say battler, I just bought loads and showed them off in the playground.

Alas, I don't think I have anything that would be even close to how much this card has gone for. Best I can offer is a dogeared shiny Chansey, or maybe a sorry looking Dark Blastoise. Hindsight is always 20/20 though, and if we ever unlock the secrets of time travel, I'm going straight back to those playground days to have a stern word with my younger self about preservation. And scamming everybody else out of their valuable cards. Survival of the fittest.
