Ubisoft has decided to celebrate the announcement of the free-to-play Ghost Recon Frontline by making a bunch of classic Ghost Recon content completely free to download and keep.

Last night Ubisoft officially unveiled the latest installment in the tactical military shooter series. Ghost Recon Frontline is an open-world battle royale that incorporates objective-based gameplay and elements from class shooters like Rainbow Six Siege. While the game will eventually feature a bevy of modes, it will be launching with a "flagship" 109-player battle royale in which three teams explore the map to complete objectives and reach the extraction point.

Check it out in action below!

A PC-exclusive closed beta test is scheduled for October 14-21 if you fancy checking out Ghost Recon Frontline. And while you wait, you can check out a bunch of older games from the series to remind yourself of a time when not everything needed to be a battle royale.

If you head over to the Ubisoft Store right now, you'll be able to get the original Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon for free until October 11. Once you've claimed it, it's your to keep forever, so get in quick. The 2001 shooter is still an absolute classic, and well worth checking out if you want to see how the series started all those years ago.

If you'd rather play something a little more recent, the Ghost Recon Wildlands Fallen Ghosts DLC and Ghost Recon Breakpoint Splinter Cell crossover expansion are also completely free to download on all platforms. Just head to the in-game store and add them to your collection. You will of course need to own either of the base games, though. Ubisoft isn't that generous.

There's no release date for the final version of Ghost Recon Frontline just yet, but we should know more after the closed beta.
