Hitman developer IO Interactive has revealed its next project, and it's a new game based on James Bond. The UK's favourite spy will be making his grand return to the world of video games in Project 007. Yes, that might just be a working title for now, but it's a great name. I kind of hope they stick with it.

"Project 007 is a brand new James Bond video game with a wholly original story," reads a tweet from the official James Bond Twitter account. "Earn your 00 status in the very first James Bond origin story, to be developed and published by IO Interactive."

Check out the first trailer for yourself below.

"IO Interactive has a proud history of creating compelling characters and universes for our players to enjoy - it's in our DNA," studio boss Hakan Abrak said in a press release "As we embark on this exciting project to create a new universe for IO Interactive together with Warner Bros., we're currently looking for ambitious talent to join our team in our Copenhagen and Malmo studios for this extraordinary journey."

Not much is known about Project 007 right now beyond the fact that it's something of an origin story story for the character. We're not even entirely sure what kind of game this will be, but given the fact that IO Interactive has a glorious track record of stealth sandbox games, I'd imagine/hope it'll be in a similar vein with plenty of gadgets and action.

It's been a while since we've seen Bond appear in his own game, and lord knows he's had more misses than hits in the video game world at this point. Warner Bros bringing on IO Interactive to craft an all-new Bond experience is surely a statement of intent, and a promising sign of things to come. Now I just have to wonder when we'll get the inevitable 007/Agent 47 crossover DLC.
