A 'Mass Effect 5' Trailer Just Dropped, And My Hype Knows No Bounds

Well, it's safe to say none of us saw this coming. It was only a few weeks ago that BioWare and EA announced that a brand-new Mass Effect was in the early stages of development... now we've got our first trailer for the game, and my hype knows no bounds.

Okay, so it's a CG trailer that doesn't really give us any idea as to what the game is about or what the gameplay will be like, but for Mass Effect fans who've been starved of anything new since Andromeda, this was a super unexpected and incredible bonus at the end of a Game Awards show packed with surprises - including a Dragon Age 4 trailer.

Take a look at the first-look trailer for Mass Effect 5 below.

BioWare announced last month that the "next chapter of the Mass Effect universe," is being worked on by a "veteran team" who know and love the franchise and understand what makes it tick. "We can't wait to continue our adventure together - revisiting our favorite memories in the Mass Effect universe, and creating brand new ones!" BioWare wrote in a blog post at the time.

As exciting as this is, it seems the brand-new Mass Effect is still a ways off. At least until it releases, we can look forward to a remastered version of the original trilogy in 2021.

Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3 are headed to PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One early next year, complete with "forward compatibility and targeted enhancements" for the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. I should stress these aren't ground-up remakes, but massively enhanced versions of the original trilogy games that show of the classics in their "best possible form[s]".

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go ahead and scour this Mass Effect 5 trailer for secrets and clues.
