One of the most impressive things about Adult Swim's hit animated series Rick And Morty is how many ideas and high sci-fi concepts it manages to cram into single 20-minute slices of television.

We've seen multiverses, microverses, time travel, time loops, galactic wars, purge planets, parasites, hive minds, and so much more besides. I can't begin to imagine what kind of big ideas would make their way into a Rick And Morty movie. Thankfully, the minds behind the show have had some thoughts about where such a project could do.

Before we go on, take a look at the trailer for Rick And Morty's upcoming fifth season!

In a recent interview Rick And Morty producer Scott Marder and Summer voice actress Spencer Grammer, Digital Spy learned how the creative team would raise the already high stakes of the TV show if they were going to use the portal gun to make the move to the big screen.

"It'd be daunting," Marder admitted. "I wouldn't be shocked if there was one that comes down the pipeline someday. But I feel like every episode is a movie. I'd like to see what a movie would be. A movie would feel like the equivalent of a trilogy. We just pack so much in. It'd have to be pretty epic."

"It'd have to be something so big," Grammer agreed. "It'd have to be a 3D, interactive movie that also has a theme park. I don't know if you can just do a straight movie. It wouldn't be good enough."

"[It'll be] once we finally get Smellovision working," Marder joked. "Once everyone can use another sense".

Grammer added that it'd be difficult to do a movie given how much the show's mythology has grown over the years. "I think there's so much in each episode that's canonical as well, and that continues to build on itself over these many seasons," she explained. "It'd be difficult to feel satisfied in just a movie, because the characters have grown and changed. We talked about it earlier."

While a movie might still be a long old way off, Rick And Morty season five comes to Adult Swim on June 20th.
