A Zombie Royale Mode Is Finally Headed To 'Call Of Duty: Warzone'

You asked for it.

Well, you guys asked for it and Infinity Ward finally delivered. Call Of Duty: Warzone's big Halloween event kicks off today (October 20th), and brings with it one of the most highly-requested features since the battle royale launched back in March. That's right kids: zombies are coming to Verdansk.

Activision confirmed the long-rumoured news in a trailer last night, revealing the limited-time Zombie Royale mode alongside a slew of other tricks and treats for the Halloween event, which Infinity Ward has dubbed The Haunting Of Verdansk. Besides zombies, players can also hunt down special Easter eggs and other spooky treats, and even dress up as characters from Saw and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Take a look at the trailer for yourself below.

Spooky, right? Of course the Zombie Royale mode is the headline act here, and it doesn't sound like it's going to disappoint. Activision explains that in this mode, dead Operators will come back to life as a Zombie instead of going to the Gulag. While playing as zombies, you can't use weapons - but you'll be more agile, do increased melee damage, and have thermal vision.

"When a player is killed, they drop a syringe that shows up on the map," writes Activision. "Collect two of these Syringes as a Zombie and you'll parachute back in with your loadout on your Squad for a second chance! The last squad standing with a surviving Operator wins, even if the rest of the squad has turned undead."

You'll also be able to spend your matches looking for Trick or Treat supply boxes. These contain cosmetic items like gun charms and calling cards, and tracking down all 16 will reward you with the Pumpkin Punisher legendary assault rifle skin. Remember when Infinity Ward made all that noise about Modern Warfare being a gritty and authentic experience? Ah well, if you can't have fun on Halloween when can you?

While Zombie Royale is by far the most interesting new mode, there'll be one or two others joining the mix. Your standard battle royale action will be plunged into darkness via a Night Mode, while Modern Warfare players can look forward to Onslaughter, in which players work together to wrest control of a Juggernaut suit.

The Haunting Of Verdansk should be available for players in the UK to download from around 6pm tonight. Happy haunting!
