Crash Bash when?

Activision has announced that its studios are beavering away on remasters and remakes that are yet-to-be-revealed, sparking speculation that classic games like Diablo 2 and Modern Warfare 3 are on the way.

In the earnings call on its Q4 2020 fiscal performance, Activision was floating on air. Overall, revenue has risen by 25% year-on-year and operating income has boomed by 70% to a stunning $2.7 billion. "In a year filled with adversity, our mission, connecting and engaging the world through epic entertainment has never been more important. I'm incredibly proud of our employees and the way they responded with resilience, compassion and dedication to support each other and our communities," said chief executive officer Bobby Kotick.

Specifically, Call of Duty continues to be the jewel in Activision's crown, and it wants to achieve one billion monthly players in 2021. Diablo Immortal is ticking along "extremely well", and Diablo IV will "contribute meaningfully to our reach, engagement and player investment growth" across its properties. And, Candy Crush has had its "strongest quarter since 2014," thanks to the "a fresh slate of content and events" delivered over 2020. TL;DR, Activision is reporting an excellent end to 2020 and a very promising beginning to 2021. The question is: what will it do next?

"We have a few other things up our sleeve in terms of remastered content that will unveil in due course, which should provide further opportunity for us this year," said chief financial officer Dennis Durkin. The conversation was swiftly whisked away to the expectations that Activision has regarding Q1 2021, Q2 2021, and 2022, evidencing that the company didn't want to entertain conjecture. However... I do. A Diablo 2 remake has been recently rumoured by a report by Bloomberg, claiming that this is one more of Blizzard's "classics" like StarCraft Remastered and Warcraft III: Reforged.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is also a sensible guess, given the solid shift that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare have put in for the series. Some are saying that Modern Warfare 3 has been on the back burner for a while, and that it will be a PlayStation timed exclusive. We'll have to wait and see.

Last but not least, the petition for a Crash Bash remake might make a resurgence with this confirmation from Activision. Blending the gorgeously goofy art style of Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time into the incredibly popular party game is practically a match made in heaven for the fans. We'll keep you in the loop when we know more.
