Grans are the best. They might not always understand what it is you want, but there's very little they won't do to make sure you have it - especially at Christmas.
Growing up with a love of comic books and video games, there were many Christmases in my past where I enthusiastically explained to my nan what exactly it was I wanted from Santa, only for her to smile and nod politely. It's only as an adult that I realise she never actually had any clue what I was talking about and would inevitably have to check with my parents that she'd picked up the right game or toy, but I loved her for that.
If you have a grandma like that, you're one lucky SOB. Take njarbeau on Reddit, for example. They recently shared a post that can only be described as "peak grandma", documenting the lengths his gran went to not only to make sure he had the CPU cooler he needed for their PC, but to try and understand exactly what it was. To be fair to her, I'm not much of a PC gamer myself so that whole world feels pretty alien to me too.

In fact, I don't think there's anything in the way njarbeau's nan reacted to the CPU cooler that I don't find relatable. Her first question was why her grandson couldn't just use something like her $35 fan to keep his PC cool. He politely explained that it wouldn't fit into his computer, which was the moment his gran learned the fan actually went inside the gaming PC... although not without demanding to see a picture of her grandson's hardware to make sure he wasn't having fun at her expense and that the fan wasn't really for something else.
"Ok now this makes sense," she replied. "Really COOL, and love your desktop and and fan!" To njarbeau's shame, he didn't seem to pick up on the fact that his nan had only just learned about CPU coolers and was already making puns about them. Ah well. Maybe in return he can help her build her own gaming PC one day? With more elderly relatives apparently getting into video games than ever before, there's never been a better time to pick up a pad and get stuck in.
